The Pebble Hammam
A hammam-inspired pool for the Tiwari residence, shaped by a life across the Gulf.

Thirty-five years across the Gulf
- Riyadh
- Kuwait
- Dubai
The Tiwaris spent thirty-five years in Riyadh, Kuwait, Dubai and the surrounding region. Their brief carries those roots: a wish to bring a piece of the life they lived there into their Bhopal house.
The house already holds the clues
Heavy furniture, gilded edges and intricate ethnic motifs define the existing interiors. Mrs. Tiwari’s wish to remake her balcony around collected artefacts reinforces a taste shaped over decades.
The pool needs a personal identity
The couple’s request for sculpture revealed what was missing. A beautiful but generic pool could become a setting for the objects, artwork and richness they already love.
The pool today.
The existing pool area, before the proposed revival.

The pool becomes a gallery
The water’s edge holds the couple’s affection for sculpture: arched niches for the artefacts they brought home, sculpted pieces set against the pool, and brass vessels that catch the lamplight.

Pebble, stone and brass
The Turkish bath provides the spatial language: water at the heart of an enclosed courtyard, framed by arches, carved screens, patterned tile and low seating.
Residential design consultingPebble and patterned tile
A tactile pebble finish glints beneath the water. Hammam-style tile borders frame the pool, with warm stone underfoot.
Aged brass and carved timber
Urlis, vessels and lamps bring reflective warmth. Carved timber echoes the weight and detail of the furniture indoors.

Deep water tones meet warm earth and flower colours. Rich, saturated tones connect to the gold already running through the house.
Florals flowing through
Bougainvillea spills over walls, while palms and ferns soften the edges. Terracotta and brass planters extend the material language into the landscape.
Lotus and marigold floated on water bring flowers into the bathing ritual itself. The planting is conceived as part of the pool, not a border around it.
A different room after dark
Pierced metal lanterns cast patterned shadows. Woven pendants gather warmth above low seating, while candles and floor lanterns mark the water’s edge.
Underwater light turns the pool into a jewel-toned centrepiece. The intention is soft, rich light that makes the courtyard a place to linger.
